Universidad del Norte’s Business School invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Accounting. Located in Barranquilla, a cultural and economic hub on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, the University is nationally recognized for its academic excellence, research impact, and strong engagement with industry and society. We are seeking a faculty member who will contribute to strengthening the Finance and Accounting Department through a well-balanced combination of teaching, research, and service.
Primary Duties
· Teach undergraduate and graduate Accounting courses in English and/or Spanish in areas such as:
o International Accounting under IFRS
o Auditing
o Statutory Audit
o Taxation
· Develop and maintain a strong research agenda with publications in peer-reviewed accounting journals and participation in academic research projects.
· Provide service to the Department, School, University, and external stakeholders.
· Support curriculum enhancement, pedagogical innovation, assurance of learning processes, and academic improvement initiatives.
Candidates should:
· Hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics, or related fields, with a demonstrable emphasis in accounting (ABD candidates nearing completion will be considered).
· Hold an undergraduate and/or master’s degree in Accounting (or a closely related field with strong accounting content).
· Show a strong commitment to continuous improvement in teaching, including active learning and innovative pedagogical methods in Accounting courses.
· Provide evidence of research productivity in accounting (e.g., financial accounting, international accounting, auditing, taxation, assurance).
· Demonstrate teaching experience in Accounting at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
· Demonstrate English proficiency sufficient for teaching, research, and international academic engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
· Professional experience in the accounting sector (auditing firms, statutory audit, tax consulting, financial reporting, etc.).
· Interest in strengthening ties between academic work and the business and regulatory environment of Colombia and the Caribbean region.
